Moving in...not quite!

Our move-in date is rather like the Brexit deadline...forever getting pushed back! But at least our moving in will be a positive thing, whereas I cannot say the same for this liberty-reducing, utterly pointless Brexit.

Sorry, I digress...but yes, unfortunately, with Jon having to do paid work at the weekends now as it's so busy (the construction industry mentality is to make hay while the sun shines, in case everything goes to shit following Brexit/more COVID next year), we definitely won't be in before Christmas.

We have reached a few awesome milestones though.

Firstly, we have electricity, which means we have lights! Well, we have electricity coming into bulbs to provide light at least. We still need to buy most of the non-downlight fittings. But this has been especially good as it gets dark so early now that we can carry on working for longer (yay!) It also means that you can actually see things properly, although the negative aspect of this is that my paint cutting in suddenly doesn't look quite as straight!

We also have heating in our lovely new radiators. This felt like an especially big thing as Jon did all the plumbing himself and we both spent many infuriating weekends trying to work out why and where there were possible leaks. We had an 'official' gas man in to sign it all off and it was incredible to feel the radiators getting hot. Jon allowed me the luxury of having it on for one hour and then turned it off, likely to not go on again until we are in.

Jon did finally manage to surprise me with something. He had said the kitchen worktop people wouldn't be able to come until January to fit these...he lied! Only a little white lie though, which when I found out this weekend, made me nearly cry with happiness (I'm all soppiness at the moment). We had chosen Verona Quartz (couldn't afford real marble - hopefully in our next house ;-) !) and having only seen it 'live' from the tiny samples they sent over, I didn't have any idea what it would be like scaled up. Luckily it looks amazing, and works so well with the dark blue of the kitchen cabinets. We are also using some extra bits of quartz for the shelves in the bathroom, so that room is very close to being completely finished. Just the cupboard to go.

So it looks like another couple of months at least until we move in, although I have set so many false deadlines now, I could be completely wrong on that. Luckily, we don't have it too bad being able to live at home whilst it all gets finished. It can obviously be pretty intense, but Jon and Dad get on really well, we love being in the countryside and as I'm still working from home, I have zero commute.

Sharing some Maisie love for everyone going through a tough time at the moment.
